Searches For Green Are Trending, Already Making It Spring’s Most Popular Colour Leave a comment

Today, I stepped out of the house for the first time this year without a beanie hat clamped on my head. And because the good times have been few and far between so far in 2021, that small achievement is worthy of a ‘hallelujah!’ in my book. It also heralds the arrival of warmer weather, and has got me optimistically eyeing the dresses and skirts section of my wardrobe as the true beacons of spring that they are.

Shoppers, it seems, are on a similar wave length because they’ve been searching for one colour in particular that couldn’t be more associated with the season of new beginnings: green. According to global search platform Lyst, searches for ‘green’ have risen 41% since the start of the month, with ’emerald’ and ‘sage’ currently ranking as the most popular shades.

This makes a lot of sense. As the trees get leafier, and the grass gets lusher, our thoughts are turning away from the cosy shades of winter (cream, beige, navy) and towards what’s outside our windows (greens, yellows and maybe even pinks if you have a cherry blossom in your neighbourhood). But it’s green, and its association with the great outdoors and Mother Nature, that feels particularly on-point for now, especially since we’re all going to be doing all our socialising in parks and (fingers crossed!) pub gardens for the foreseeable future.

And if you’re feeling a little like a wallflower, you don’t have to go for a bright jewel tone for your first outing. Khaki and the aforementioned sage both count as green and are the perfect entry point to the verdant kingdom. If, on the other hand, you like your pigments to be as punchy as possible, don’t shy away from the limes, the emeralds and the chanteuses. Go on. You’ll be green with envy if you don’t.
