Holly Willoughby’s Marks and Spencer denim dress is the best thing I’ve worn in lockdown – Laura Nightingale Leave a comment

For the best part of a year, I’ve lived in leggings and tracksuit bottoms like many other people in lockdown.

Having worked from home since the pandemic began back in March 2020, my office shirts, skirts and heels have sat at the back of the wardrobe untouched.

During the short spell last summer when pubs and restaurants were open, I was able to briefly wear something different to loungewear.

However, since Christmas I’ve sat in baggy joggers and warm sweaters, slipping on old trainers on my chilly daily walk around the block.

I’ve felt rather unfeminine and with nail bars, hair salons and clothes shops still closed; I’ve lost all motivation to make an effort.

However, as a result of the latest lockdown announcement and with spring on the horizon, I started dreaming about picnics, pretty dresses and warmer weather.

Last week Holly Willoughby shared her latest new season Marks and Spencer denim look on her Instagram page, and I instantly fell in love with it – as did thousands of her other followers.

I ordered the M&S Collection belted denim shirt dress online and it arrived just a couple of days after.

At £49.50 the material felt strong and good quality, and the colour denim was a medium blue.

It wasn’t light nor heavy, making it just the right weight to keep you warm in the spring breeze but comfortable to move around in.

Available in regular or long length, I ordered the latter as I am 5ft 9, and it fell half way between my knee and ankle.

The collar and cuffs had a pretty, dainty design and for the first time in a long time I felt feminine again.

As I skipped around my living room in my new dress, I felt like Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music as the skirt was free-flowing.

The top half was much tighter than I expected (perhaps down to a bit of lockdown weight) and if I did have one criticism, the tiny top button was particularly fiddly to do up.

Similarly, I’m not sure if the sleeves were meant to be slightly short as they didn’t go right down to my wrist.

Nevertheless, I love the dress and while I may not rock the look perfectly like Holly does, I can’t wait to wear it outside the house.

Bring on the sunshine and Scotch eggs in the park.
