This outfit is about as Carrie Bradshaw as it gets around here. The tutu skirt from Sex and the City became an iconic look in the late 1990s – will it be back again in the new series? Possibly, if Patricia Field is still styling the show. I’m a firm believer in wearing what you like, whatever your age; bold skirts in your 50s, why not? Brilliant colour is an increasingly popular pick-me-up this season.

According to Tim Ewington, one of the co-founders of Aethel Knitwear, customers are being braver with their fashion choices. No longer going for low-key shades of black, grey and navy, the best-selling colours in 2021 are tangerine, lemon and pillar-box red. “It is a remarkable turnaround from our launch, when customers bought less assertive colours and we received lots of emails asking for us to make versions in black,” says Ewington, “Now the versions in black are the laggards.”
