20-40-60 Etiquette—How a personal shopper could help with your wardrobe Leave a comment

QUESTION: Are there personal shoppers in stores that could help me with my wardrobe? In a couple of weeks, I go to work for a new company and I would like to look my best. The clothes in the magazines these days aren’t my style. Who could I get to help me?

CALLIE’S ANSWER: Yes, there are lots of salespeople in any store that would be happy to help! I’m sure your wardrobe depends on what your new position is, too. Make sure to have a budget in mind before you start looking; that should help you in where to look.

LILLIE-BETH’S ANSWER: I would look in a local boutique for personalized attention. Some larger department stores are good, but sometimes it’s hard to find the right help. With all of the choices between the different departments, the choices get overwhelming (unless you know specifically what brands you like). You can ask friends for suggestions about local stores with clothes that match your style.

Local stores should be the first place you look and support, especially after such a hard year for many of them. Most of them have knowledgeable sales associates who can help you pull together the right look as you try clothes on, and they really want to help you look your best.

Also, even though I am reluctant to recommend online shopping in light of that, I have liked online stores from time to time like MM LaFleur, where you can plug in information about your size and look, and they’ll put together a box of items to try tailored to you. You send back what you don’t want. The clothes are expensive but classic and of good quality. Just make sure any online stores have a good and easy return policy.

HELEN’S ANSWER: Most of our local salespeople are knowledgeable about the clothes they are selling. They can put together a jacket, slacks or skirts, and blouses that look great. Ask your friends who look “put together” where they shop. The local stores also have the updated trends that might work for you, and if you get them home, and don’t like the outfit, you can easily take it back.

In the larger stores, there is sometimes a virtual stylist to help select clothing and accessories that look good, have good price points and are exactly your style. They can send them out for you to try.

It is going to be great to return to being out and about and figuring out what clothing will be trending for spring. I know, since you are giving thought to be matter, you will figure out what works for you. Enjoy your new job!
