I don’t want to sound like a spoilt fashion brat (and I’m perfectly aware that there are certainly bigger things in the world to worry about), but there’s been a real dearth of exciting style spotting this January.
A saviour has certainly been Bridgerton and the ‘regencycore’ trend which it’s inspired, but there’s another takeaway from the hit Netflix series which has been a personal highlight – the wardrobe of Nicola Coughlan, the ‘small Irish acting person’ (her words) who plays Penelope Featherington – and a certain other essential mystery character – in show.
Coughlan’s style is frilly and pretty. With her porcelain Gaelic skin, the actress has a doll-like look which she and her stylist, Aimee Croysdill, have amped up with the outfits they’ve chosen for all the virtual appearances which the Derry Girls star has been doing to promote the show. This week, Bridgerton became Netflix’s most-watched series ever, with 82 million views globally in its first month of release.
